What a success!

Yesterday's auction was amazing!  The turn-out was great.  The groundwork had been laid.  The people at the auction had heard about Lucy for 3 weeks.  Kendra had done an amazing job at informing all her customers about Lucy and about the upcoming auction in Lucy's honor!

Kendra had gotten many items donated to sell...the people were there...and it was time!

Kendra had asked Lucy if she wanted to help her sell some stuff.  Lucy's response was a quick head nod and an outstretched hand...and they were off!

(Lucy getting her introduction!)

Lucy assumed her position at the gavel and Kendra had on her mic....

It was awesome!  (how many times can 1 person use the words awesome and amazing)

One amazing story from the day:

The Hummel. I hope I'm spelling that correctly. This Hummel was the 2nd or 3rd Hummel to be auctioned off today. After the item was won by it's bidder ($40 or $50)...they said "put it back in...sell it again...I'll pay for it but put it ...back up for auction and get money for it twice!"  So Kendra auctioned it a second time....bringing an additional $30 or $40 for it the second time...the winning bidder said "put it back in.....sell it again"....and so it went....8 times the item "sold" and was put back in to sell for Lucy....it brought a total of $322.50. And the last time it sold....Kendra bought it herself so that Lucy would have it forever. Now tell me people....is that awe-inspiring or what? What precious people God has put in our path to help raise money for Lucy. Speechless I tell you!

I love that all of Kendra's auction staff were wearing their Lucy shirts!!!  What a blessing these people have been to our Lucy!

When it was all said and done....Kendra had raised (between sales and donations) over $3,000 for Lucy's surgery!

Kendra....we are forever grateful to you for loving our yougen and making such a huge impact on her life!  We love you!

Eight...

Eight thousand....actually just under!

That's the amount we still need for Lucy's surgery!  I am amazed!  Blown away!!

We are so grateful to every single person that has donated, bought a t-shirt, organized, fundraised, riden a bike, passed out flyers, etc. for our Lucy!  Your kindness is mindblowing!

God is definitely doing His thing!  He is good and faithful!  We are so blessed!!!

Please continue to pray for Lucy, surgery and funding!  We covet your prayers!

Much love,
The Farleys

H'ears to Lucy

New to the blog?

Allow me to catch you up to date!

We are the Farley Family!  An adoptive family of 4 kiddos!  Three girls from China and one young man from Taiwan.  Our last to come home is Lucy.  Lucy was born in China and is currently 3 1/2 years old!  She was born with Microtia and Atresia.  She basically has no outer ears, ear drums or ear canals.  She was born deaf.

Lucy came home to Kentucky last September.  Within a few weeks Lucy was fitted with a BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) and Lucy heard for the first time!

Needless to say, Lucy had no real language but we have been working hard to get her caught up in that department!  She now attends Lexington Hearing and Speech Center through Fayette County's Early Start Program.  We are so proud of the progress she is making!  Everyday Lucy has new words and has even put 4 and 5 words together!!!  Love our girl...she's trying to talk!!!

Lucy now has the opportunity to have ear surgery to provide her with ears!  Her first surgery will be the left ear. Lucy's facial nerve is totally exposed on the inside so the left side will be just an outer ear.  But can you imagine the difference having an ear will make!!!  (not to mention that she wears glasses that have to be strapped to her head....since she has no ears)  Lucy will have a BAHA stem implant on her left side so that her BAHA will snap onto a stem placed behind her left ear.  Her first surgery (left ear) will be September 27th....just a month away!!!

Here is a photo of what Lucy currently has as a left ear.....but not for much longer!

We have been fundraising like crazy to raise the money needed for this first surgery. Our maximum out of pocket will be $22,750 not including travel. Lucy's surgeon is in California! He does amazing work and we feel very blessed to be able to have him make Lucy's ear!!!

Here is Lucy's right side....she has a little more tissue on this side and a little pocket...but no canal.

Lucy's second surgery will be approximately 5 to 6 months after the first this will allow time for healing!  Her right ear will provide her with an outer ear, ear drum and ear canal!!!  She will have some natural hearing on the right side!!!  So with the BAHA on the left and natural hearing on the right, Lucy will have directional hearing!  She will be able to tell where the sounds are coming from!!  What a miracle!  What amazing work these doctors can do!  We are blessed to be able to give Lucy hearing and ears!!

Lucy's second surgery requires an additional surgeon and a different facility so all monies are due up front.  Our projected need for the second surgery is approximately $65,000.  (not including travel) So, you can see our need is great!  But our God is greater!  We are so eager to make this a reality for Lucy.  For her to have the chance for a normal life.....a great quality of life.  For something that most of us take for granted......ears.

Here is a video that shows you what Lucy will have done!  It's simply amazing...it's about 10 minutes long but so worth the time!  This is Lucy's surgeon Dr. John Reinisch!!!

So, welcome to the fundraising department!  We are selling t-shirts to raise money...check out the cuteness right here!!! Lucy is sporting her very own t-shirt!

We are selling these for $15 each...and we DO ship!!  $5 shipping for one shirt and an additional $2.50 for each additional shirt!   (if you are interested in having a Lucy shirt of your own...you can leave a comment on this post with your contact information or you can email me directly at cloggingcyn@aol.com)

Do you enjoy a good motorcycle ride?  More of a bicycle person???  We have an awesome event this weekend in Georgetown!  "Be a Hear'o - Ride for Lucy"...check out the details listed below!

We have been so blessed along this journey by so many people wanting to help our Lucy! We want to thank each and every single person that is making a difference in the life of this little girl of ours!

If you aren't a t-shirt person, don't ride bikes, live out of town??? But you still want to help? You can visit Lucy's Indiegogo.com site! Just click on the link to donate towards Lucy's surgery!  (there's also a direct link on the right hand side of our blog)

We are so grateful to be on this journey of a lifetime for our youngen' and feel so blessed that God called us to be her Mommy and Daddy!

What a ride! Hang on Lucy!

We would greatly appreciate all prayers for Lucy, surgery, safety, healing, funding...etc.

Thanks for taking your time to read about our youngen'..please feel free to share Lucy's story!!

Stay tuned and follow along on Lucy's quest for ears!!!

first day...

Today was Lucy's first day back to preschool.  She attends Lexington Hearing and Speech Center through the Fayette County Early Start Program.

She loves it.  She was so excited that today was "Lucy's turn" to go to school!

My baby thanked me all the way to school.  "Thank you mommy, Lucy's turn" or "Thank you mommy, Lucy's school".

Oh this child of mine.

1 year ago.....August 21, 2011

Meeting Daddy for the first time....bless her heart.  Now that we really "know" her...I hate seeing her so apprehensive.  Breaks my heart.

But Daddy did bring gifts.....

Things always go smoother with food!

A man that carries snacks can't be too bad.

Yep!  He's alright!!!

I can't believe God blessed us with this perfect angel one year ago!  She has changed our world!  And we are so glad she did.  Lucy makes me smile every day.

She is the most amazing person I've ever known.  She is always happy and she is so easy going!

Thank you Jesus that you chose me to be her momma!  I am forever grateful!

40 days

Only 40 days until we leave for California.  42 days until Lucy has a left ear.

I am so thrilled for what this will mean for Lucy.  I am also a little sad that part of her will change.  I love this child to the bone.  She is perfect.  Absolutely perfect.

She amazes me everyday.  She is always happy.  She is always in the best mood!  She is my miracle.   So if I can do anything to make her life better....cause she certainly has made mine better...then I certainly will!

So, my little one....only 42 more days until you have an ear.  A left ear.

Channel 18!!

The amazing staff of WLEX channel 18...are currently at our house filming a story about Lucy and the family!  (and all the fundraising that is going on)

Unbelievable....the level of compassion, true caring for our family.  Astounding.

We are forever grateful for what they are trying to do for our Lucy!  Thank you Nikki Burdine and Photographer Brian!  You touched our hearts!

The kids did great during filming!!  Brian and Nikki both commented on how well behaved the kiddos were and what a great job they did!!!  (cause I told them if they misbehaved they would have to go to their rooms and wouldn't be on TV!!)

Here are a few moments from their visit! For those folks of you that don't know Romy...she loves to "do hair".  Bless Nikki's heart for letting Romy "do" her hair!  (Nikki Burdine needs a raise...job conditions....just sayin....)

We love Nikki Burdine!  You are beautiful inside and out!

Giving Keegan a lesson in reporting.....

Getting her new "do" on!

Lucy wants a piece of the action!

Lucy's story is supposed to air next Thursday evening at the 7pm news cast!  Stay tuned!

Potstickers? Yes, please...

All my kids absolutely love potstickers.

And they all like carrots.

Everyone enjoys peas.  (ok, not Adam)

But when you have potstickers, carrots and peas....with chopsticks???

Well, let me tell you....

Mealtime fun reaches a whole new level!

And yes.  She ate her peas with chopsticks as well.

She ate probably 7 or 8 potstickers.  Yes, 7 or 8 entire potstickers.  Where she puts them, I don't know.
