Home

There's no place like home!!!

After Dr. Reinisch saw Lucy yesterday he cleared us for home!  We changed our tickets and was able to head out Saturday afternoon!  We arrived at our home about 1:30am.....long day but so worth sleeping in our own beds!

We are so grateful for all the prayers, support and love shown to our Lucy!

What's next you ask???

Lucy and I leave on October 9th to head back to CA for her next follow up.  At that appointment Dr. R will remove the bandage (skin graft on back of head) and the blue mold/cap over her ear!!!

Lucy knows she has an ear under there!  She'll tell you that she was on a airplane and now there's an ear under that cap!

I can't wait to see it in person!  I'll post pictures that day....don't you worry!

So thankful that one surgery is down.....a couple more to go!  So for today, we rest in knowing that God has been with us every step of the way and He'll continue to be with us as we walk down this path together!

Much love,
Cynthia and Lucy

Oh the hair!

I still can't believe Dr. Reinisch came in on a Saturday to check out Lucy so we could go home early!

When he pulled off her skull cap....Holy Moly!!

Dr. R cutting out the little strings that were holding Lucy's hair out of the graft area.

Here is her skin graft site.  The bandage is stitched on.

 I be lovin' this picture!!!

Dr. Reinisch had been working on combing out Lucy's hair....this could have taken all day.  Just a smidgen tangled!

I want you to know that man had "detangler" in the cabinet in the exam room!  That boy is prepared!

Sweet face.....

Doing a little cleaning.

Lucy and her surgeon!  What a true blessing this man is to the world!  So blessed that God gave this man such amazing talents!  We are so grateful for him!

The American Girl Doll

Today we ventured out (while they changed our hotel room) we needed to kill a few hours.  We headed towards a complex called The Grove.  Very cool place!

We happened upon the American Girl Store!  We did a little shopping and decided to stay for lunch!

Very schwanky restaurant!  So cute!  You baby can sit with you and eat right beside you!!!

Lucy did receive a nice prize today!  Bitty Baby Twins!  It's the least we could do!  My baby has been through alot....so 2 new babies!  Kim (after Dr. Kim) and Jon (after Dr. R)!

The second course!

Sharing with Kim!

Grilled veggie sandwich was yummy!!!

Cuteness!

We are so thankful that Lucy is doing as well as she is!  Praising God for His healing!

God has opened the door for us to head home earlier than expected!  We truly feel it's a blessing!  Great all around!  Great for healing to be at home, great for Adam he can get back to work sooner, great for Keegan she won't miss as much school, great for Cherri...she won't have the other 2 kids after tomorrow night!  Ha!

Praising God for all that He has done for us and Lucy!  Please continue to remember us in prayer as we head home with a 3 year old little girl with a great big boo-boo!

Love you all!

the morning after...

Miss Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed!  Lucy woke with a smile this morning!  Precious girl!

Please focus on the cuteness in the foreground!  Ta-da!

Lucy ate 2 boiled eggs and orange juice for breakfast!!!  Girl was hungry!

Keegan enjoy herself some toast!  She painted that butter on there for 20 minutes....I was waiting on a masterpiece!  (cracked me up!)

Lucy slept pretty good through the night.  She only woke a couple of times and went back to sleep.  She was up at 4:30am for the day....which is fine...that's 7:30am at home!

So blessed and thankful that surgery day is behind us and healing is in front of us!  Love you all for your support and prayers!

my girl

The hospital gave Lucy a little bear to cuddle and hold and named her "Lucy"....when Lucy came out of surgery her little bear's left ear is bandaged up just like Lucy's......aaawww.....

My angel in recovery!  She came out of it a little cranky but not bad....she didn't like the oxygen tag on her toe and kept trying to kick it off!  (needless to say, that sucker was taped on)

She was so determined to get down and walk after we got back to the hotel....that I finally had to just let her stand.  It lasted about 10 seconds and then we were done!  Back to bed!

After some drinking she progressed on to the popsicle!  Praising God for His goodness....she came out of anestesia pretty well and never threw up!

Thank you to everyone that said prayers for Lucy and us, to everyone that "wore" their Lucy spirit yesterday, and all the good thoughts and vibes sent our way!  We love each of you and Lucy has been blessed by you!

We are so grateful.

We've met some amazing people along this journey .  We met the most precious lady yesterday in the recovery room....I won't try and spell her name (cause I just don't know how to spell it....so we'll call her "Hermie")  If everyone would please remember Hermie in prayer....she is walking a tough road right now and I know God is with her.....let's wrap her in prayer.  In just the few minutes we spent with her, you can tell what a special lady she is!  What a blessing she is!

Recovery

My angel!

Surgery updates!

5:45am arrived at surgery center

6:45 taken back to change

7:10 given happy juice

7:30 Dr. R arrives and Lucy is wheeled off......

8:40 Dr. Reinisch is getting started....

10:28 Dr. Reinisch has completed the 2 skin grafts and is shaping them for her ear....she is doing well they said.  (this momma is having a hard time with this part.....)

10:38 Franchesca (the PA) just came out and said Lucy was doing great and her part is done....the skin graft in the groin area is not too big....they are making her a small ear since she's so tiny.  They used one of the surgeon's ears as a guide!  Lucy will have Dr. Kim's ear as a prototype!  She said Lucy's graft site shouldn't be too tight!  They have already done the dissection on the "flap"...this is the issue that is brought down from above her ear....that wraps around the ear frame....they dissect the membrane and let it rest so the blood vessels don't retract....during this time Dr. Reinisch forms the Medpor (the frame) to implant.

11:53 Dr. R continuing to shape the graft for the ear and working on cleaning up the left ear site....all going well!  Praise God!

1:32pm  The flap has been wrapped around the Medpor (the plastic ear frame) and Dr. R has started attaching the first of the two skin grafts.  She is still doing well.....they are anticipating surgery completion around 3:30pm.

3:00 surgery is OVER!!   Praise you Jesus!  Please continue to pray for no nausea, no pain and quick healing!

Love to all!!

I'll post more later!  Hoping to go see my girl!

The view

For the sake of y'alls minds...thought I would give you a new set of pictures to look at!  This is the view from our waiting room!  Nice, huh?

Check out all the homes on the hills??  I'm guessin' a smidgen pricey!

If you look really close inbetween the two tall palm trees....you can see the "Hollywood" sign....see it???

Surgery center

We arrived at the surgery center a few minutes early....so grateful to be early and not late!  Thank you Donna!

We got Lucy registered and headed to the second floor.

After a few minutes they called us back (and Donna took Keegan out to get breakfast) so Adam and I went back to help get Lucy ready!

She seemed to love her jammies!  (Darcy...not a problem!)

Please check out the snappy sock/shoe things!  Very cute!  And please notice the cuteness of the patient!

Lucy was sure to let the nurse know that the flap was too long on her wrist band....had to get that cut off!

They gave me a small....tiny little cup of happy juice to give Lucy....I didn't get no happy juice.

They warned us she might get a little silly.  However, they failed to mention she might get a little violent!

She was quite hilarious!  She laughed and laughed and nearly tore the bears legs off!

She did really well....I did pretty well!  At one point, she seemed to get a little overwhelmed and needed comforting from her momma....that's when it hit me!  I got a little teary but never cried!

Adam was trying to take her picture and she kept blocking the camera with the bear.....and cracking herself up!  Love my girl!

A little tired now.......

Being wheeled out........please continue praying for her throughout the day!

We love her surgeon and his staff!  They anticipate her surgery to last 8 to 9 1/2 hours......ugh.

I'll keep you posted....they are to call me around 9am (CA time) and approximately every 1 1/2 hours throughout surgery.....
